Introduction to the MBBS Program
MBBS at Wuhan University is a six-year medical degree program in English for international students.
Study MBBS in Wuhan University is mainly concerned with the structure and function of the human body, human behavior and normal mental state, the causes of common diseases, including mental disorders, and the influence of environmental, social, behavioral, and psychological factors on the occurrence and development of diseases, and the importance of disease prevention, etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and prevention of common diseases.
It is designed to prepare international students in methods. Basic knowledge of pharmacology and clinical principles of rational use of drugs; normal pregnancy and childbirth, general emergency obstetric care, principles of prenatal and postnatal medical care, family planning; health education and disease prevention, common diseases, disabilities, rehabilitation, hospital care, general practice; knowledge of clinical epidemiology; basic patterns of infectious disease occurrence and transmission, prevention of common infectious diseases and so on.

About Wuhan University Medical School Faculty of Medicine
Wuhan University Medical School was formerly known as Hubei Medical University and was merged with Wuhan University in 2000. The medical school has sub-schools of basic medicine, dentistry, public health, nursing, etc. There are three affiliated hospitals and 35 teaching hospitals.
The hospitals have 5080 beds, 15 million outpatients per year, 50,000 inpatients, 25,000 major surgeries, 100 clinical departments and auxiliary departments, and all specialties with 30 laboratories. There are 2,500 employees, including 1,125 professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and medical assistants. There are 5100 students, including 3000 undergraduates, 1500 postgraduates and 600 international students. In terms of academic exchanges, it maintains good relations and cooperation with hospitals and institutes in the USA, the UK, France, Germany, Finland, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
WHU School of Medicine offers medical students many specializations, such as clinical medicine (five-year, six-year, seven-year, and eight-year), dentistry (five-year, seven-year, and eight-year), preventive medicine, medical laboratory medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, and nursing. Clinical medicine is the “labeled field of study for undergraduates” among the medical schools of the Chinese Ministry of Education.
The school has two provincial demonstration centers for experimental training: the Center for Experimental Training in Basic Medicine and the Center for Experimental Training in Clinical Skills. The total area of the experimental training buildings is 7,432 square meters. The experimental training centers are well organized and fully operational. There are 2,689 pieces of equipment with a total value of 42.92 million yuan.
There are three experimental training platforms in the Experimental Training Center of Basic Medicine: morphology, kinesiology, and molecular biology and immunology training platforms. The Clinical Experimentation Learning Center is equipped with advanced facilities for medical experiments, such as intelligent simulation robots (iStan), complete simulation robots (Sim), complete simulation robots for babies (SimBaby), high simulation head models, PCR models and obstetric models.
The WHU School of Medicine has three directly affiliated world-class hospitals where students can complete their internships after graduation. The three hospitals are WHU Dental Hospital, WHU Renmin Hospital (Renmin Hospital of Hubei Province) and Wuhan Plus University Hospital, Zhongnan. Renmin Hospital has 2,680 beds and Zhongnan Hospital has 2,100 beds.
WHU School of Medicine has 11 indirectly affiliated teaching hospitals, all of which are top-ranked. There are also six teaching hospitals for internships at community health centers.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport and hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Application Deadline
The application deadline is June 15 each year.
Tuition Fees
The tuition fee is RMB 40,000 per year. The total amount for the six-year program is RMB 240,000.
Career Opportunities
Upon completion of the six-year program, students should be able to acquire the following medical skills: Take complete, systematic, and accurate histories; Perform systematic and standardized physical and psychiatric examinations and prepare standard protocols;
Make and express accurate clinical judgments; Diagnose and treat common diseases in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and other fields of medicine; Diagnose and treat general emergencies; Select appropriate clinical diagnoses and treatments for patients; Improve treatment methods in medical practice by applying the principles of evidence-based medicine.
