Who are they?

I’m not sure if you’ve ever walked through the Windy City, but it’s a beautiful place. The people are friendly and the architecture is out-of-this-world. It’s a city with a lot of personality, but in order to grow, it needs a lot more graphic designer. I’m very fortunate to have been born and raised in this amazing city, and after graduating from Columbia College with my BFA in Graphic Design, I knew that I wanted to stay here for the rest of my life. Being new in town seemed like an exciting opportunity so I decided to reach out to some graphic design companies and get my foot in the door as an intern.


What do they specialize in?

They specialize in communication design, packaging design, editorial design (newspaper/magazine), and branding. These designers are able to have a major impact on the way people perceive a company by conveying their values and mission through color schemes, fonts and visuals. In addition to the basics of graphic design such as illustration and layout work, these masters are able to use technology such as Photoshop or Illustrator to bring their ideas into reality. Finally, they also create printed materials like brochures or posters.


How did they get started?

I asked myself, what do I want to do with my life? I studied finance at school, but had no love for it. I saw an ad on Facebook for a graphic design course at Ideaseat and was hooked.

I quickly learned that Chicago graphic designer is all about communication. You need to be able to tell your story, clearly and concisely, in order to get the point across. It’s more than just making something look good – it’s about making the consumer feel something too.
